Organizations in Transition

There are normally three phases in an organization's development cycle:

  • Formation and Innovation
  • Growth
  • Decline or Renewal

Every growth cycle has a peak. If the organization remains locked on this curve past the peak, it moves into decline. If it holds on to "what it has always done", it will end up in the Declining Phase. The other option is to consciously break out of the boxes of "how it has always been done" and move into an entirely new growth cycle, the Renewal Phase.

To renew means to make new again. It requires a conscious choice. It requires the renewal of its people. Top priority for any organization today should be to develop a mindset among its people that naturally anticipates and supports ongoing renewal.
